Cambridgeshire Scything Workgroup
The Cambridgeshire Scything Workgroup was set up in November 2024 to organise scything and raking sessions during the growing season, mostly in South Cambs but we can travel further afield. We are open to anyone who wants to have a go at managing their land via scything - see the WildScythe, Scythe Association or Scythe Cymru websites for why that’s a good idea and to explore more about scything. We operate as a co-op - if you want scythers, you need to be prepared to help scythe at other locations as well as your own. We organise via a Google Group email system. The group includes experts, beginners, and those in-between, plus one or two who just do the raking! To find out more or inquire about joining, write to cambs.scything@gmail.com.
For members: check the calendar below for free slots and “book” a scything session on your land by writing to the address above. We’ve had our best turnouts on Tuesday, Wednesday or Sunday evenings. Sessions start about six pm. Include full directions, parking information, and what you can supply in terms of refreshments, facilities, etc., in your booking enquiry.
You must put your own public liability insurance in place and have full permission from the landowner to host a session. You should carry out your own risk assessment appropriate to your area. A sample Risk Assessment is HERE. As sessions are booked, they will appear in the Calendar below. Please check the calendar before applying for a date. Please use the Google Group to organise lift sharing as well.
