Guided Rare Orchid Walk to Haslingfield Quarry

  • Quarry Lane Cambridge, England, CB23 United Kingdom (map)
  • Google Calendar ICS

Haslingfield Quarry (or clunch pit) is one of only two sites recorded by the Wildlife Trust in the three counties of Beds, Northants and Cambs which are home to the rare Man Orchid. This relatively undisturbed chalk grassland, a County Wildlife Site, also boasts Bee Orchids, Twayblades, Common Spotted Orchids and Pyramidal Orchids, as well as many other native wildflowers. This free walk and talk by resident Clive Blower is open to all and includes historical information about the Quarry and nearby cottages and an optional climb to the top of Money Hill, with 360 degree panoramic views across the south of the county and north to the spires of Cambridge. Easy walk to the Quarry from the bottom of Quarry Lane, off Back Lane/School Lane. The walk to the top of Money Hill is moderately steep and can be slippery when wet. Nettles and brambles are common - wear sturdy shoes and long trousers. BYO drinks/sunhats. Meet at 10 am sharp at the bottom of Quarry Lane.

Wellhouse Scything Evening

As members of the South Cambs Scything Workgroup, we are hosting scythers from our village and around the county at the Wellhouse Meadow to help us manage the orchard area and the land opposite, which we have seeded with wildflowers. This is an evening event to avoid the heat of the day. Scythers and rakers are welcome - no experience required for raking. Please keep dogs away from scythers if you stop by to see us!
