The South Cambs Climate and Nature group (CAN) which includes representatives from many of our neighboring parishes, has organised an event to share what parishes are doing to restore biodiversity.
This relatively undisturbed chalk grassland, a County Wildlife Site, also boasts Bee Orchids, Twayblades, Common Spotted Orchids and Pyramidal Orchids, as well as many other native wildflowers. This walk and talk by Parish Councillor Clive Blower, organised by the Haslingfield and Harlton Eco Group, includes historical information about the Quarry and nearby cottages and an optional climb to the top of Money Hill.
As members of the South Cambs Scything Workgroup, we are hosting scythers from our village and around the county at the Wellhouse Meadow to help us manage the orchard area and the land opposite, which we have seeded with wildflowers. This is an evening event to avoid the heat of the day. Scythers and rakers are welcome - no experience required for raking. Please keep dogs away from scythers if you stop by to see us!
Orchardist and permaculture expert Charlotte Synge joins us to help us prune the apple trees in the community orchard before the spring sap begins to run.
Join local scything expert Jim McVittie in this first of two upcoming sessions at Haslingfield's Wellhouse Meadow. You can observe experts scything and have a go at scything to see if you might be interested in learning the craft. Help is also need in raking the meadow.
